Dr. James Naismith, invented the game of Basketball in 1891 while he was working at YMCASchool of Spring Field, USA. Now the game has spread across the world through YMCAs and became the most prestigious event of the world of sports. Basketball is played in 212 Countries and more than 300 million people play worldwide. This game was first introduced in India through YMCA Calcutta during 1912.
The first event, “REBOUND 2016- Five decades of Basketballs in an effort among the entire former players community to unite and innovate the way forward in nostalgic legendary event” as it took place in Rajeev Gandhi Indoor Stadium Kochi on 2nd and 3rd July 2016, was a great success.
Basketball is a sport that is played by two teams of five players on a rectangular court. The objective is to shoot a ball through a hoop 18 inches (46 cm) in diameter and mounted at a height of 10 feet (3.048 m) to backboards at each end of the court. The game was invented in 1891 by Dr. James Naismith, who would be the first basketball coach of the Kansas Jayhawks, one of the most successful programs in the game's history.
Basketball first played on Dec 21st, 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts and is celebrating its 125th birthday in 2016.
